长沙理工大学有这样一群“理工男”,他们自己研发、自筹经费,加班加点设计制造了一台“金属3D打印赛车”——FNX-16。据公开资料显示,这样的金属3D打印赛车,在国内尚为首创。昨日,长沙理工大学举办新车发布会,推出这款新赛车,并宣布该款赛车即将出征2016中国大学生方程式汽车大赛。

  国内首台金属3D打印概念赛车

“大概3年前,中国赛车界引入了高分子材料 3D打印的概念。今天,我们做出了全国首台金属3D打印为概念的赛车,这些金属3D打印的零部件更坚固、更稳定、费用更高。对我们而言,最重要的是制作难度更大。”长沙理工大学赛车队队长赵树成谈起这台车的创制过程时说。长沙理工大学前后五届、300多名大学生接力5年,制造出“FNX系列”大学生方程式赛车,到昨日已经是第5台即“FNX-16”赛车。这辆车从去年开始研制,直到今年暑假结束时才基本定型。在攻关阶段,很多同学都是从早上8时干到深夜。经费上,由于拨款不够,赵树生和一些团队成员先后拿出数万元,同时联系到一家业内领先的3D打印厂商成为赞助厂商,赞助了团队20余万元。

“这次制造赛车的过程开发了自己的思维,锻炼了自己的创新能力。”团队成员陶益伟说,FNX-16只有大约200公斤重,行驶姿态也比上一个版本要稳定得多。

  可生产出赛车的各种金属零部件

“包括进气歧管、轮毂、方向盘、空气动力学套件等诸多零部件,用的都是3D打印技术。”团队成员王慧介绍说,“如果采用机械制作方法,很多地方需要制造很多细小零件,要不同的模具、机床。运用3D打印技术后,只需要在软件上建模成型,导入到打印机器中,就可一次性打印出整个竞技系统。”

有了3D技术,大型工业将不再需要规模过于庞大的工厂厂房,未来的制造基地将会更小、更快、更智能,产能会比当前提高数倍。“未来的汽车工业,必然将更广泛地运用3D打印技术。”王慧说。

Changsha University of Science and Technology (CSUST) unveiled its 3D-printing metal racing car FNX-16 on Sept. 18, and announced its participation in the 2016 Formula Student China (FSC).

This is the first 3D-printing metal racing car in China, developed and self-financed by a group of engineering majors.

“3D printing polymers was introduced into China’s racing car industry three years ago. Today, we have this 3D printing metal car, the first in China. It boasts stronger, more stabilized, and high-cost metal parts produced through 3D printing, and to us, much more challenges in production,” said CSUST car-racing team captain Zhao Shucheng.

The FNX-16 is the fifth car of the “FNX-series”, as a result of five-year hard work of over 300 students. In the critical period, the team members worked day and night, and raised funds by themselves.

“We have developed our innovation ability while developing the car,” said team member Tao Yiwei. The FNX-16 is lighter than the previous cars, with only 200 kg in weight, but can operate more stably.

The intake manifold, wheel hubs, steering wheel, and aerodynamics devices of the car were produced through 3D printing. Instead of numerous small parts in conventional production, 3D printing technology enables a whole system to be manufactured via modeling and printing.

Thanks to 3D printing technology, conventional huge plants will be substituted for smaller, more efficient, and more intelligent production bases, with the productivity remarkably enhanced. “In the future, 3D printing must be widely used in automobile industry,” said team member Wang Hui.
